I chose the "Ration Book Diet" as it means I don't have to stop eating foods that I enjoy. It just means changing the amounts I eat and the cooking methods used. I intend to cook as much as possible from scratch - perhaps excluding bread as it was available to buy during wartime rationing.
Here I'll include a list of rationed foods I'm allowing myself along with the amounts (and in some cases, the reasoning behind those amounts).
Per Week:
- 4oz (113g) Bacon and Ham
- 4oz (113g) Butter
- 4oz (113g) Margarine
- 4oz (113g) Lard
- 8oz (226g) Sugar
- 3oz (20-ish bags) Tea
- 3 Shell Eggs (replacing Dried Egg powder as I can't find it locally)
- 3pt (1.7litres) Milk
- 1s.6d (£2, but I'll be using £3 due to current money-to-amount ratios) Meat
- 1 box Breakfast Cereal
- 1lb (453g) Jam / Marmalade / Treacle / Syrup
- 12oz (340g) Sweets / Biscuits
- Vegetables
- Bread
- Native Fruit
At some point further into the diet I'll probably drop the Butter and Bacon/Ham rations, and perhaps the Lard ration, down to 2oz (56g) apiece, but only once I'm used to the diet.
I'll publish a post, including a picture, for every meal I eat along with the amounts and methods of cooking it. However, I won't publish posts for sandwiches / snacks, etc.
Now to see how long I can keep it up!
